Vagabonds does our best to help and support the soon to be registered NGO Friends of Koh Rong (FoKR). Established in 2013 by a small group of very compassionate young women from Australia and Canada, FoKR exists to help the local communities on the Koh Rong archipelago adapt to the tourism industry that is changing their way of life forever.
Friends of Koh Rong seeks to aide local Khmer’s to stand in the best possible position to benefit from the changes that have come to their island. FoKR’s main areas of focus are education and capacity building, by encouraging free choice in young individuals. To learn more about the organisation or make a donation explore their website or check out their Facebook and Instagram accounts. Want to go the extra mile and really help where it’s needed? Find out how you can volunteer and work directly with Koh Rong’s children here. FoKR also run a weekly beach clean on the island with local kids and are always looking for tourists to join in the efforts. Find out how you can help and earn a free beer when you visit us at Vagabonds.
Important note: Are you a doctor, registered nurse or other health care professional? Koh Rong and Cambodia in general has a very low standard of healthcare for both locals and tourists. If you’re visiting the island, even only for a short time, please visit the FoKR Centre on the community pier and find out how you can help the community, or simply advise them where you’re staying and for how long so we can contact you in case of emergency. Having this information could save someones life.
